Vein Conditions

Chronic Venous Insufficiency

Venous insufficiency a very common condition, resulting from decreased return of blood from the leg veins up to the heart and pooling of blood in the veins. Normally, stop valves in the vein close to keep blood from flowing downward with gravity. When the valves in the vein become weak and donít close properly, they allow blood to flow backward, or reflux.

Spider Veins

Spider Veins are very small veins in the skin itself, and get their name from their resemblance to spider legs. They can be unsightly and in some cases, when present for a long time, can bleed when bumped against things. Those which are prone to bleeding and the spider veins which are simply cosmetically undesirable can be easily treated and made to disappear. Sometimes, spider veins can be a sign of underlying venous insufficiency which a comprehensive and careful examination using state of the art equipment can reveal.

Varicose veins

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted, blue veins that are close to the surface of the skin. Because valves inside these veins are damaged, they hold more blood at higher pressure than normal. The patient may see a blue vein on the skin. The pressure forces fluid into the surrounding tissue, making the affected leg swell and feel heavy, achy, tired, and painful. Symptoms include itching, burning, dryness, redness, and ulceration. Sometimes varicose veins can be present without symptoms, but eventually the veins get worse and symptoms develop.

Leg Pain Ė Achy, Throbbing, Burning, Cramping Legs

Many different conditions can cause pain in one or both legs. While some of them relate to the circulation in the legs, others do not. In order to find out the source of leg pain, a skilled assessment with appropriate testing is performed at Elitemedizin and Veins.
